Addictive Personality – What Is It and What Causes It?

Many people say, “I have an ‘Addictive Personality.”  The statement is said with a tone of pride, superiority and finality; as if to say, ‘Don’t expect anything of me, I am who I am – Additive Personality – there is nothing I can do to change – It is my lot in life.’

The word Addiction has become a ‘catch-all’ label for every behavior that is unwanted or unseemly. The number of behaviors labeled an Addiction in Western/Allopathic protocol is comprised of 110 behaviors.

Originally the term addiction was conceived and defined as physical and psychological dependence on psychoactive substances (alcohol, tobacco, heroin and other substances). Subsequently, addiction was broadened to include any persistent, compulsive dependence on a behavior or substance. Henceforth, every symptom can be labeled an addiction. AddictionZ Victoria, BC Canada has compiled a list of 110 addictions as set forth by Western/Allopathic Medical criteria.

Western/Allopathic protocol treats addictions with behavior therapy and drugs – most preferably antidepressants and in some cases with antipsychotic drugs. This protocol has shown little recovery.

Traditional mental health professionals use a simple quiz to determine if you are addicted to one of the 110 addiction labels. For example the following quiz determines if you are addicted to negative emotions.

  • Do you ever get upset when traffic delays you?
  • Do you ever feel tense or anxious when the cable, internet, or lights go out?
  • When you burn your mouth while taking a sip of coffee/tea, do you feel angry?
  • When the waitress brings your dinner out cold or wrong, do you get upset?
  • Are you offended if you answer a question and no one believes you?
  • Are you stressed when your plans go awry?
  • Do you become upset when you are out of control?
  • Are you anxious when something is ambiguous or you need to know all the details before you can make a decision?

If you answered ‘yes,’ to one or more of the questions above, then your automatic response is a symptom of a negative emotion addiction.

Society needs to take a hard look at what is created when thoughts and feelings are labeled an Addiction. Western/Allopathic theory and protocol fails to recognize symptoms are inexplicably within the person’s thoughts, feelings and actions. Every symptom can be more accurately defined as an expression of the person’s experiences, lifestyle, beliefs, indoctrination and conditioning.

The Mind, Body and Spirit are inexplicably interconnected with the Universal Laws. The Universal Laws are founded on the understanding that everything in the universe is energy and everything is inter-related. Thoughts, feelings, words and actions are all forms of energy. What one thinks, feels, says, and does in each moment comes back to create ones reality – The Law of Cause and Effect. The combined thoughts, words, feelings, and actions of everyone creates a collective consciousness, it creates the world one sees. Thus, transformation in Mind, Body and Spirit is possible – given the system has the proper care-nutrition, herbal and mineral supplements, emotional, physical and spiritual support.

The decision to label those, who engage in negative thoughts and feelings are abusing the person in a different way.  The root cause of negative thoughts and feelings are the experiences, conditioning and indoctrinations that have a direct link to his/her emotional foundation.  People, who engage in negative thoughts and feelings are emotional and verbal abuse survivors.  “If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring worth what is within you what you do not bring forth will destroy you.” –The Gospel ofSt.Thomas Logian

Paradoxically, though, when one does bring forth what is within; one is given a negative label by the Psychiatric profession – An Addiction.  An Addiction according to Western Psychiatric protocol is an attempt to avoid personal accountability and discomfort.

Transforming the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual issues for anyone whose emotional foundation is based on negative indoctrination, conditioning and experiences –no matter the reason–is possible. An innovative and highly effective process to achieve deeper and more total transformation can be achieved. The process is direct, focused, and combines transforming the past while creating a foundation for the future. People quickly make a subtle and effective transition to self-discovery and empowerment.

Transforming mental, emotional, physical and spiritual issues at the core addresses the all-important relationship to one’s true nature – thus transforming the indoctrinations and conditioning. Transforming the psychological indoctrinations and conditional patterns and unconscious beliefs that arise from the personal histories and adaptations effectively transforms the mind, body and spirit. One transforms how one feels, senses, and experiences global consciousness, as well as one’s individual consciousness, like never before. The Emotional, Physical, Spiritual Transformation (EPST) approach addresses the three critical aspects of one’s true being, thus opening the door to true balance, emotional well-being and peace of mind.

Well-being and peace of mind comes from the understanding of the Self, the family, the community in which one lives, and the global community of which one is a part. We are each one heart of the Whole; each heart is here to express its unique piece of the Whole. Knowing Self creates a sense of “I as a piece of this Whole,” different and one at the same time.

Unless each person is willing to look at his/her contribution to negative emotional responses, she/he will not perceive his/her negative foundation. If she/he does look into him/herself, he/she will encounter his/her own ‘beast in the jungle’—a life spent, not in living, but in keeping his/her true feelings at bay. Unless he/she actively seeks personal change through the diligent work of emotional, physical and spiritual transformation, she/he will, to some degree, have lived a non-life and have been, to some degree, only an idea of him/herself. This is his/her own greatest personal tragedy.

The final answer to eliminating emotional exploitation and abuse is stopping what creates people to emotionally exploit and abuse.  Thus, society can foster well-adjusted individuals, who carry it forward to the next generation.
