The myths about emotional/mental health persist because, the psychiatric profession labels everything a disease rather than emotional/mental distress. The truth is emotional/mental issues can not be resolved with prescriptions or talk therapy. How do we know what’s real and what’s nothing but made up misconceptions?

In 2010 after the publication of his book, Anatomy of an Epidemic: Magic Bullets, Psychiatric Drugs, and the Astonishing Rise of Mental Illness in America, Robert Whitaker, was not welcomed within the psychiatry establishment. Whitaker documented evidence that standard drug treatments were making people worse over the long term, and he detailed the lack of science behind the psychotropic treatments.

With psychotropic prescriptions suicide is rare in the U.S.

Suicide is a major preventable issue. More people die of suicide than in car accidents, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In 2010 there were 33,687 deaths from motor vehicle crashes and 38,364 suicides.

Myth

Treatment for emotional/mental distress is a cop-out for weak people

Fact

Treatment is necessary for emotional/mental distress if the issue persists more than 30 – 45 days. Like any physical dysfunction emotional and mental distress is an equivalent to any physical diagnosis from Abdominal pain to Viral Infections and everything in between.

Myth

All people with schizophrenia are dangerous with no hope for recovery.

Fact

Only a small proportion of people with schizophrenia might be violent. Schizophrenics can recover provided the emotional/mental root cause is addressed at the subconscious level.
