Happiness – Life Elixir
You have the capacity to be happy in an instant, like the flip of a switch or blink of your eye, a single thought can flip you into a moment of happiness.
More often than not one can get caught up in the rigors of life and one tends to forget that happiness needs to be included. Seeing the irony of a situation can bring laughter, laughing at oneself or simply taking things less seriously. Happiness does not need to be scheduled, a steep climb or hard-won. Happiness does not need to be delayed until there is nothing pressing or of concern.
Specifically, joy is not the exclusive province of those with unlimited leisure time and no challenges. Many of the happiest people on earth are those who are coping with the most serious challenges. They have learned to make the best of ‘what is,’ rather than bemoaning ‘what is.’ They notice, accept and enjoy the simple and superb pleasures that can be enjoyed quickly and easily. Cultivating a happy heart takes no more than a minute or two and longer if one chooses so. The resulting delight will be neither complex nor complicated, but it will be profound and will serve as a reminder that there is a reason to smile.
You can enjoy an aromatic cup of tea, take a stroll through the park, write about the day’s events in a journal, doodle while daydreaming, or breathe deeply while you listen to the silence. In the company of a good friend or treasured relative, you can enjoy your sense of humor, reminisce, play a board game, cards or reconnect through lighthearted conversation. The key is to identify what makes you dizzyingly happy. If you do only what you believe you ‘should’ do to bring yourself contentment, those minutes will be less than satisfactory. When you allow yourself the freedom to do whatever brings you pleasure, if only for five minutes, your wakeful hours will brighten your life immeasurably.
It is usually when you have the least free time or energy to include joy that you need to unwind and enjoy yourself the most. Remembering to incorporate happiness frequently, if only for a minute or two, you will find that you are more inspired and elated within. When you include happiness, in spite of your hectic schedule or pressing demands, you will become more adept at finding happiness in the maze of a busy and demanding life style. Subsequently, including happiness will become an established part of your life.
When a habit of including happiness is established and you begin pursuing an activity or goal you will notice you automatically think of new and different ways to fulfill your daily doses of happiness. Thus, you will seldom be without something to smile or laugh about.
