Life’s Challenges Prompt Growth – Embrace Them

A challenge is defined as a difficulty, a problem, or an obstacle. Or a challenge can be defined as an opportunity to learn to improve one’s life situation. It all depends on how one sees a challenge. John Demartini, DC, CEO and founder of the Demartini Institute, is the best-selling author of The Breakthrough Experience and many other books says that support plus challenge equals the best formula for growth.

The great key to personal growth is the ability to face challenges and meet them head-on. Of course facing challenges head-on means that one needs to overcome fear-humiliation, embarrassment, shame and fear of failure.

Challenges play an important role in the formation of character. Character is not created by facing challenges, however, rather it is revealed by them. You may be unaware of your own character until you are met with seemingly daunting obstacles. It is the manner in which you deal with challenges that reveals your true inner self. Eleanor Roosevelt reportedly said, “Women are like teabags. We don’t know our true strength until we are in hot water.”

Many people become annoyed and frustrated when difficulties, problems, obstacles, come up. It is the lack of confidence and faith that prompts people to be afraid of meeting challenges. “Accept challenges, so that you may feel the exhilaration of victory.” -George Patton

Have you considered where the challenge is and what is the support in your life? As Dr. Demartini says you can know that life takes care of the challenge and it’s up to you to take care of the support. This does not mean that life is devoid of providing the support, but, it is up to you to look for it, appreciate and draw to you the kind of support that will help you not only meet but surmount any challenge. “There are no great people in this world, only great challenges which ordinary people rise to meet.” -William Frederick Halsey, Jr.

Support can be found by amplifying the way you give support, by the way you appreciate the support that is in your environment right now. Other ways to support yourself is by listening to music that is inspiring to you. Sit for five minutes and listen to music or read something that inspires and uplifts you. After listening to an inspiring song or reading the inspiring material pause for five minutes and look at nature and see the wonder and glory of what is all around you right now.

Support plus challenge equals the best formula for growth. All of life is inviting you to challenge yourself to grow. “Challenges are what make life interesting; overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.” -Joshua J. Marine

Empowered people see ‘problems’ as something to overcome, and they step forward with confidence. By meeting challenges head on and looking at each situation as a valuable learning experience you can improve on your ability to overcome obstacles in an organized and effective manner. Challenges give you the opportunity to exercise and re-enforce your empowerment.
