Post Traumatic Stress – How To Heal
When humans are faced with a traumatic event in order for the psyche to stay in balance some details of the event are instantly forced into the subconscious mind so that the conscious mind can continue to function. The subconscious mind holds the details – sometimes weeks, months or years. Then, considering all factors the subconscious mind pushes the information into the unconscious mind so that the details can be accessed by the conscious mind to be processed and released.
While this process seems effortless and straight forward it is not that simple for everyone or for every traumatic event. Consider the traumatic experience of war, a tsunami, earth quake, tornado, vehicle crash, murder, 911-WTC and the list goes on. Furthermore, one need not have direct experience of a traumatic event to exhibit signs of Post Traumatic Stress (PTS).
When the headline of a traumatic event emerges, people are affected. The healthy reaction to a traumatic event is in the understanding that life is, rather than, experiencing the event as if one was part of it or that one is a victim. After a traumatic event when one has feelings of fear, anxiety and the intensity of the emotions are evident one needs to process them until they gradually lessen. This usually takes a few days, but sometimes it can take weeks. Sometimes the conscious mind gets stuck on the traumatic event, like a needle on a vinyl record, causing the event to keep replaying. The event seems like it is happening over and over.
Common signs of PTS are fear, sadness, anxiousness, irritability, and anger. Some people feel disconnected from life or emotional numbness. Others act overly vigilant as if to ward off any subsequent trauma. PTS can affect sleep patterns, causing insomnia and nightmares. Others might become lethargic and sleep or nap frequently. One’s appetite might also change – either loss of appetite or overeating.
Children exhibit PTS signs differently than adults. They often express a fear of being separated from a parent. Some might stop performing previously learned skills, such as reverting to earlier habits/behavior – wetting or soiling, thumb sucking or wanting to bottle feed. Some children engage in acting out aspects of the trauma in their play activities. Sometimes sudden and generalized phobias arise that are less obviously related to the trauma. Aches and pains, such as stomach aches with no apparent cause are prevalent. Children will express PTS through irritability, aggression or inability to cooperate.
On the physical level PTS is recorded in the fascia, the connective tissue and energy that runs throughout the body in a three-dimensional web. Fascia wraps around all the biological structures: muscles, nerves, blood vessels, bones and organs. Fascia surrounds all cells and provides the intracellular matrix, influencing health for the entire cellular system.
During a PTS period the fascia tightens and torques, creating a straightjacket of up to 2,000 pounds of pressure, which compresses vital structures and prevents energy flow in the body. The result is a feeling as though one has one foot on the gas and one foot on the brake pedal simultaneously. This causes blood pressure to go up, adrenalin and all defensive chemicals to surge. One is locked into either a fight or flight response. One’s unconscious mind is convinced it is being chased by tigers and/or lions. The body’s system responds accordingly. This is not how the body is engineered to work for prolonged periods.
Emotional and physical PTS can be assessed and released, repetitive patterns can be revealed and resolved. No matter what precipitated the traumatic experience PTS can be resolved through Mind, Body, Spirit healing. The process is efficient, effortless and complete.
Emotional, Physical and Spiritual Healing (EPSH) is direct, focused and combines creating health while healing the past. It is precise, empowering, effective and an accurate process of changing the landscape of your inner and outer mind, body and spirit. EPSH allows you to access your past, present and future – as well as your subconscious, and clear negative energy on all levels – mind, body and spirit.
EPSH unifies body, mind and spirit and allows the person to experience the emotional trauma in real time, in a safe place. Experiencing the emotion in a safe place allows the conscious and unconscious mind to process the details as needed by each individual.
After one session people report feeling calmer and clearer. The foot comes off the brake pedal, and the nervous system can let up on the accelerator. The body can then operate and navigate life at a safe speed again. Because mind, body and spirit are intertwined, in this method, the results are complete and lasting. The majority of people attain complete healing within three to six sessions.
As with any mind, body and spirit healing process, the sooner the imbalance is identified and treated, the easier it is to release the negative layer of emotions and restore overall balance and health. If you think you are experiencing mild to major PTS, whatever the cause, it is easier to address it sooner than later, because time, pills, body parts removed, or other coping strategies are ineffective. Healing at the cellular level in mind, body and spirit is the answer.
