If you’re NEW in a new company or to growing your business, you’re in the ramping up stages. One of the MOST DANGEROUS things you can do is listen to the opinions of unqualified people.
Recently, I’ve been on a rant with my clients about WATCHING whose opinion they’re listening to.
And they are everywhere.
Your husband – your wife – your mother – your dad – your sister – your brother – your grandparents, your friends, your neighbor, none of whom have been in your career or run a business or someone at a business event, and the list goes on.
Yes, they might be successful people in their own right but if they are not making MILLIONS of dollars DOING WHAT YOU are doing – with a proven track record of getting results – BE VERY WARY of their best advice!
Opinions are like a MOUTH, everyone’s got one!
Watch whose opinion you’re listening to!
People are not purposely intending to rain on your parade or keep you small, but they are projecting their fears to keep you SAFE. Does that make any sense?
The first unquestionable stone tools were evidently made and used by early transitional humans and possibly Australopithecus garhi in East Africa about 2.5 million years ago. Have you wondered if people poo pooed* that endeavor? Or did they stand in support and awe that whatever was invented would be something important?
SAFE and successful don’t go together. Ask any successful entrepreneur—from Eli Whitney, Edison to Elon Musk.
It’s a LIE.
Success means taking risks if you’re doing something NEW. And you can’t grow yourself or business without taking risks. You don’t remember how many times you fell down while learning to walk, but, you got up and did it over and over until you mastered the art of walking.
Success comes from Chaos, it comes from getting uncomfortable and yes it even comes from failure. Falling down and getting up again and again as many times as necessary to achieve the results you desire.
You’re NAIVE if you think you won’t FAIL a little along the way to get it right and achieve the financial success you deserve and desire.
And this is what every well-intenioned person in your life who LOVES you is telling you to avoid – failure.
If you listen to them, however, they might cost you WINNING as well.
So be careful.
It’s Abso-positively-Lutley dangerous to listen to the opinions of unqualified people.
DANGEROUS. I will say that again. It is dangerous to listen to the opinions of unqualified people. Think about it would you ask a truck driver—no offense to the truck driver—to tell you how to fly an airplane unless he/she is a pilot also.
There’s an axiom, and I KNOW you’ve heard of it, so let me remind you only because it’s true: “Your wealth is the average of the 5 people you keep company with most.” Another axiom—“Birds of a feather flock together.” Do you want to fly like an eagle or a turkey?
I didn’t make those up and I know you’ve heard them before.
Watch WHOSE planting SEEDS in the fertile soil of your mind!
This is WHY I am SO adamant and crazy in love with working with careerists and entrepreneurs.
I have seen over the last 30+ years of coaching and mentoring people, the MAGIC happens when people are guided with clear, concise and targeted methods.
As I said before, “Birds of a feather flock together”…. I’m on a quote rant here with ya’ all.
Friends I will cherish for life. Friends who don’t bat an eyelash when I tell them they’re going to grow and Take Their Power Back to create the revenue they desire.
They know I am talking from experience, which encourages them. When I tell them my next goal they cheer me on, they say “awesome, how can I help?” They don’t tell me I’m off in la la land, have lost my senses or make me doubt my decisions…. No.
Watch whose company you keep and whose OPINIONS you are listening to because THAT is what’s shaping your success. THAT is what will predict your future.
If you want to reach your goals and grow your career or business SOONER RATHER THAN LATER, surround yourself with people who BELIEVE in you – who not only think it’s possible, THEY KNOW IT’S POSSIBLE and they are handing out road maps with the best restaurants and scenic stops along the way!!!!
If you’re not surrounding yourself with rock star WINNERS yet – what are you waiting for?
Remember, YOU are WHO you surround yourself with. Is it in your best interest to engage with a coach/mentor to help you get the ball rolling and keep it rolling?
*”Pooh” is an interjection used to express contempt, disapproval or dismissal. It likely comes from the sound of puffing something away, sort of like “pshaw”.
